Giverny - モネのお家 -

Giverny - Claude Monet's House -

November has come and it's getting colder and colder in Paris.

This time I visited the house of painter Claude Monet in Giverny, a suburb of Paris, and would like to introduce it to you.

Giverny

Giverny, famous for the Claude nMonet's House, is about an hour away from Paris and can be visited on a day trip.

It's a very cute little village with 467 residents(as of 2021).

The main street is Claude Monet Street, named after Monet.

This street is lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants as well as Monet's house.

A shop and a restaurant.

Although it is only about an hour away from Paris, it has a completely different charm.

Ancient Hôtel Baudy

This is the hotel where Monet stayed when he moved from Paris to Giverny before moving into his house, and it is now a restaurant.

Among them is a piano that perhaps even Monet would have played at the time.

From 1887 to 1914, this hotel was a meeting place for Monet and his friends, including such notable artists as Cezanne, Renoir, Rodin, Sisley, and Mary Cassatt.

There is also a garden where Monet's atelier is located.

The door is open and you can take a look inside.

The food is classic French, but why not have lunch at this restaurant to visit this nice yard mas Monet's atelier?

Claude Monet's House and Gardens

The gardens are open from April 1st to November 1st, and when I visited at the end of October, there was so many people maybe as it was nearing closing time.

Unfortunately, it was not the season so there were no lotus flowers blooming in the pond.

The lotus flower season is from the end of June to August, so if you're in Paris during that time, here is the place!

By the way, have you seen Emily in Paris?

The place where Emily and Camille jumped in (lol)

The garden is full of flowers and weeds and looks haphazard at first glance, but it seems that even every single weed that is left has been carefully calculated.

There were paintings displayed all over the walls in the house, and while I thought they were works by Monet, but they were actually works by his friends, such as Renoir.

The cat sitting in front of the fireplace moves around from time to time.

Where will he be when you arrive?

There is also a room decorated with a large number of ukiyo-e prints, which makes it easy to see that he is influenced by Japonism.

However, all of the ukiyo-e prints currently on display are replicas, and the originals are being carefully preserved.

At the end you exit through the kitchen, which is also very cute.

I have a feeling that even I, who am not good at cooking, will be able to cook good in this kitchen.

Saint-Radegonde Church

The church is simple and not large.

It was a twilight time and the light shining through the stained glass was very beautiful.

The Monet family is buried in this church cemetery.

That was my day in Giverny, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you for reading and hope to see you in next blog.

Collection【Nara】/ Nara Collection

Speaking of Lotus flowers...

The theme of the collection is Buddhist statues from Japan's Nara period, but the collection was created with the image of lotus flowers.

The lotus calyx is with cabochons of black mother of pearl to express seeds, and the petals are made of mesh parts, giving it a very light impression.

If you are interested, please take a look at the Nara Collection .
